Chinese Revenge

I was watching some of the making of the recent “Karate Kid” with Jackie Chan. The film was created by Will Smith as a vehicle and learning experience for his son. It was filmed in Beijing’s studio back alleyways, storage yards and by ways.

I purchase my silk organza bags, crystals and other art supplies directly from a manufacturer in Beijing. I have come to respect and frankly love my friends in China. I always celebrate the Chinese New Year with my family in respect for their culture.

The Chinese people are very interesting and disciplined people. One of the scenes in the Karate Kid movie was filmed at a real Kung Fu school for children, in specific, boys. Each child was perfectly aligned and moved in sync with the commands of the master(teacher). A perfect picture of discipline and diligence.kung fu dojo karate kid film

So many people I know flounder through life, not knowing where they are going. They have very little direction. We are late to appointments, lack good manners, have little self control among other things that severely need improvement. My thought was, if every single american child (even if only the males) were made to learn that kind of discipline and integrity, where would our country be today? It saddens me.

Every electronic device we love, the ipad, ipod, kindle fire, etc, are ALL made in China, and we eat them up. The Xbox, the Wii, and so many others including phones are all made in China. We depend upon China for our technology. Our society is being built upon it now. Our kids cannot succeed in school without access to the internet and soft ware to help them learn like Powerpoint.

Another thought, we owe China SO much money, one day, our grace with them will run out and they will call for our payback of the debt we owe them. What do you think will happen? ……Let me tell you. We will fall as a nation. Our “Super Power” will cease.

As an artist, so many despise Chinese products, yet we continue to rely upon Chinese technology without a flinch. What hypocrites we are! I for one, will learn the Chinese language and teach it to my kids. I will respect their market and their discipline. They will one day conquer us..and we will not be so resistant to them then. Even the Indian people are more educated than our own children in America, yet we have such pride. Why? What pride do we posses that gives us the right to put ourselves on a pedistool?

So, I say to you, my American friends and family, be wise, respectful and strive for a higher excellence. To my Chinese friends, who have given me and my country loyal friendship and grace, Thank you. I sincerely hope, that day will never come, but if it does, what will your response be?

A bad reputation lasts for ten thousand years.

The Escape Plan

We recently realized some electrical issues in our new home. This has put our family at risk. The reality of the whole thing has brought me to creating an escape plan in case of a fire. We just finished painting the two girls’ bedrooms. One of the bedrooms has smoke damage in the window seal and the fire alarm is stained with smoke yellowing. This is a huge alarm and a source for my nightmares.
Do you have an escape plan in place for your family? Here are a few things you need to understand before you create your own family plan:

  • Most fires occur at night, the smell of smoke won’t always wake you up.
  • Fires produce a toxic gas that will actually make you unconscious creating a higher risk for death.
  • Fire alarms that are not tested may not work in the case of an actual fire, TEST THEM!
  • Know two ways out of every room, by door or window.
  • Make a way for upper level bedrooms to climb out of a window, either by ladder or rope.
  • If you live in an apartment building, map out as many escape routes as possible.
  • If at night, you hear a fire alarm, roll out of bed, don’t stand up. Crawl to the door and touch the door itself first to see if it’s hot, NOT the door nob, you could burn your hand severely as metal conducts heat much faster and intensely than wood does.
  • Meet at a pre arranged place for head count.
  • Make sure the kids know what neighbor to turn to first for help.
  • Never enter back into a burning home or building, as hard as that could be. Leave all your belongings behind, save your body first.
Home Fire Escape Route
  • Make sure your babysitters also know the plan and what to do in case of a fire.
  • It is always good to have baking soda right near the stove for grease fires, as water only accelerates oil fires.
  • Always have a fire extinguisher on hand in the kitchen or near your fire pit.
  • Back up all your computer files, pictures, documents, scanned birth certificates, etc, online for safe keeping in case you loose your computer in the fire.
Always remember, things..can be replaced, YOU can never ever be replaced.
Live every moment as if it is your last, you never know, what tragedies will befall you or your loved ones. Never leave without a hug or saying goodbye. Never go to bed angry at one another. You will never know when it is your time or theirs to go. Don’t miss a second.

Christmas Locally

There are so many things this week that happened. First and foremost, Obama made president again. Not going into that one for the moment, but with all the job layoffs happening this week and the stock market dropping lowest in a year right after his re-election, this Christmas promises to be a lean one again. Even European investors pulled out. What does that say to you? China will NOT be happy with us! I know I will be putting money way for my kids and spending less.

48 hours after Obama’s re-election, the following companies have all announced layoffs in the USA:

- Westinghouse
- Research in Motion Ltd.
- Lightyear Network Solutions
- Providence Journal
- Hawker Beechcraft
- Boeing
- CVPH Medical Center
- US Cellular
- Commerzbank
- Iberia
- Momentive Performance Materials
- Brake Parts
- Gameforge Berlin
- Vestas Wind Systems
- Husqvarna
- Ericsson
- SRA International
- PerkinElmer
- Majestic Star Casino and Hotel
- Center for Hospice NY
- Bristol-Myers
- Lower Bucks Hospital
- Oce North America
- Corning
- United Blood Services Gulf
- Atlantic Lottery Corporation
- Welch Allyn
- Dana Holding
- Stryker
- Boston Scientific
- Medtronic
- Smith & Nephew
- Abbott Labs
- Covidien
- Kinetic Concepts
- St. Jude
- Hill Rom
- Darden Restaurants
- Kroger
- Caterpillar
- Alcatel-Lucent
- Umatilla Chemical
- Rocketdyne why does this matter to me. Let me tell you..all those workers are my potential customers. With doing a poll locally and finding most of our Colorado Springs folks are buying locally, I decided to invest my time into the local economy. My online shop will remain open, but I will be purchasing space in the Chapel Hills mall here in Colorado Springs and concentrating my sales there.

I think the thing that angers me the most is the electoral votes are all that mattered in the election, not our popular votes. Why did I vote again? I fail to see it currently. Not to mention the motivation behind Obama’s bailout for the car industry. Since Ohio has one of the largest amounts of Electoral votes, besides California..and also harbors the car manufacturers, then what reason do YOU think he bailed them out? He’s got alterior motives people. And I hate to find out what is to come for us this next 4 years. All I have to say is I will be on my knees more often and praying with my children much more, preparing them for the future. God help us all.

The Rewards of Pain

Tonight, my daughter and I watched Phantom of the Opera again for the umpteenth time. She loves that movie and so do I.  She is 8 and you know, she loves to sing. She sings along with the song “Think of me” and a few of the others that hit super high notes. She can almost make them too, but she is young with an untrained voice.

One of the things you may not know about me is I have been a solo artist for many years. I have sung on many stages. This is why I love the stage so much. But because of a few very painful discouragements and hardships in my life, I stopped singing altogether. Lately, this past year, I have had that yern to start performing again.

I have been a costumer for about 5 years now. I love theater costuming. Love, love it. The unique outfits are so incredible and I adore designing them. Buy my true love is singing..and I have forgotten how much I love it.

My daughter asked me tonight to teach her to sing like the girl in the movie. Now, I just can’t say no to a little girl with perfect pitch..can you? So, It has been my decision to begin my re-training again. Yes, my voice is older..I’m 39 now. But nothing is impossible if you believe…in you.
After realizing the dream is not totally shattered, I had another epiphany. What if…just what if, we are not successful because we are not committed for the long haul? The bad the good and the ugly. What if, people are just to short sighted to see the rewards beyond the pain. What if we expect more then we should right off?

A man in my life once told me I give up too soon..and because of it, I would never make anything of myself. That response to me, stuck with me and caused me to rebel against that curse. With my USAF military discipline training, I have bit down and hard! My jaws are locked..and I won’t let go. This has been my banner and my success. My husband calls me a bull dog.

I may have lost 10 years..but that doesn’t mean I’m done for good. Consider it a reign check. Sometimes, you take those shattered pieces, and you repurpose them for something so so much more beautiful.

Restoring your Carpet

Moving from a new house was not an easy task in any way, shape or form. My husband has had cancer for about 7 years now, with success of using natural means. In the intern  though, we have lost our credit due to extensive bills from his surgeries and complications with bloodclots leaving us without a good strong income.

So renting was what was available, but we still have our dream of owning our own home. This last move was the hardest of any I think. We have always made it a point to leave the house/appartment/town we lived in, rented in, even better than when we moved into it. That “Wow!” factor from the landlord or from the rental company is so satisfying.

This time, we had an older house, that had an older carpet in pretty bad shape after renting for 2 1/2 years. It was not even blue anymore, but a dingy dark grey. I knew, from past rental cleaning experiences, that you just can’t get that out with a regular machine rented from Walmart or King Soopers. And hiring someone to do it professionally was not in the budget.

We have tried lots of other carpet products, from Woolite to Resolve. Even have tried to use some recipes suggested from floor installers. None of those got the stains out. We rented a carpet machine from a vaccum shop. It was one of the best on the market.  It was a Hoover home steam cleaner. After doing a great deal of homework on the internet, I realized there was more options available to me than I realized.

Rit Dye Color RemoverI am a freshwater pearl dye master. Rit dye won’t hurt your pearls. I use it for many applications and have even used the color remover from Rit Dye to fade pearls for a different tone. So, I did a test and found that the Rit Dye Laundry First Aid products made a huge difference in the carpet. The Color remover only removes color from cottons, the carpet is nylon, Rit Dye Whitener and Brightenerthus the logic is it won’t hurt the color of your carpet. The Whitener and Brightener product did a absolutely fabulous job with brightening the color of the carpet to a beautiful bright blue, the original color.

It took 8 boxes of each at $1.66 from Walmart for the whole house of 2,100 square feet. It smelled funny and I recommend using an air filter mask, but boy, howdy!! It worked so well, I will never ever go back to resolve ever again!
